Bush signs bill to prevent discrimination based on genetic testing
May 21st, 2008 | by MikeS | | Post to NewsCloud »The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act was signed into law today by President Bush. With genetic tests available over the internet at a price many people can afford, there has been a strong lobby for a law that will help safeguard how that information is being used. The law will make it illegal for employers or insurance companies to use genetic information as a basis for discrimination. The law was first put forward 10 years ago but faced stiff opposition. Many people see this as the law finally catching up with the technology.
